What is the KFL?

In 2011 a group of football-loving friends began getting together for regular games of pick-up football in Kitsilano. This was not a one-off occasion. It was any given Sunday in the rain, hail or shine where 20-30 different football mad friends would gather, break-off and play for the love of the game! In 2012, we made the call to go big and piece together a fundraising one-off round-robin tournament. Quickly, we realized that this was no longer going to be a one-off fixture on our calendars. The KFL was here to stay! From that point, the KFL has grown exponentially year-over-year and people from all different walks of the community continue to join in the fun. With what was originally a way to “unite the boys for a game of football”, the Kitsilano Football League (KFL) is now celebrating our tenth fundraising tournament. Every year the focus remains the same – we work towards achieving 3 things on the day:

- Lots of Football
- Loads of Fun
- Endless Fundraising

This annual fixture is not just for football lovers, it is for friends and families of the KFL and Greater Vancouver community. Straight up, there's no other "beer league" or event quite as awesome and fulfilling as this annual fixture. For some, it is a chance to run around and throw the football with some buddies, meanwhile for others, it is a chance to relive the “glory” days. Regardless, the competition stays on the field and the fun drags into the night at our fundraising event where endless prizes are raffled off as well silent auction items sold to help drive our fundraising total to new heights! You’ll be unlucky if you don’t walk away with a prize!

KFL X – The Charity

Each member of the KFL committee truly understands and appreciates what it means to have the fortunate and unique opportunity of participating in organized sports as a kid. We see this opportunity as the platform for long term team personal growth, vital team building skills and most importantly allowing the chance of realizing a dream. Once again in 2018, the KFL is all about supporting and breaking down the financial barriers for underprivileged families and creating that special dream for kids. Whether it means playing with your best mate, your next door neighbor or simply having the chance to score that game winning touchdown and celebrating like your favourite football stars – we, the KFL, have got you covered!

As was our aim in 2017, we are continuing to streamline our fundraising efforts to ensure we hone in and give everything we have to the one charity only. That charity goes by the name of Jumpstart. The vision of this charity is quite clear, “Canada, where all kids have a chance to fulfil their dreams.” We believe, just like Jumpstart, that every kid should be given the same chance we had as kids, to play sport without the limitation of family financial burdens. Canadian Tire is Jumpstart’s biggest fan and by covering all general administrative expenses, it ensures that 100% of donations made are given directly back to the community to help kids and families in need.
